You probably have a favorite type of rice in your home country, but if you live abroad, I recommend using basmati rice. In my opinion, it cooks up beautifully fluffy and pairs well with sauces.
Ingredients (4 servings):
- 2 cups of rice
- 1 garlic clove
- 2 pinches of salt
- 2 cups of water
Instructions
1
Rinse the rice thoroughly under cold water until the water runs clear. This helps remove excess starch and will result in fluffier rice. Let it drain and dry for about 5 minutes.
2
Preheat a saucepan over medium-low heat. Add the rice and lightly toast it, stirring constantly, until the grains turn slightly golden and release a nutty aroma.
3
Add the 2 cups of water, the peeled garlic clove, and the 2 pinches of salt. Mix well and taste the water to ensure the salt level suits your preference.
4
Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat. Once it starts boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan, and simmer for 10 to 13 minutes, or until the water has been completely absorbed and the rice is tender.
5
After cooking, turn off the heat and leave the saucepan covered for about 10 minutes. This allows the rice to finish cooking with the residual steam.
6
Uncover the saucepan and fluff the rice with a fork before serving. Remove the garlic clove. Enjoy your perfectly fluffy rice!

In Peru (my home country), we serve almost every dish with rice. Since my childhood, my mother taught me to prepare rice without oil to reduce its use and make it healthier. Over time, I also learned that serving rice cold is highly recommended. I encourage you to explore more about this topic online.
