My boyfriend and I are planning to visit Puno in June before heading to Cusco. Can anyone recommend things to do?

Information about the weather and clothing:

Puno is situated at an altitude of 3820 meters above sea level, which means a cold climate with average temperatures ranging from 3 to 15 degrees Celsius. It is advisable to wear warm clothing and protect yourself from the sun, as the sunlight in this region is one of the most intense in the world. It's important to wear sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat, even on cloudy days.

Tourist attractions in Puno:

  • The Cathedral and the Main Square: These places were built on the ancient ceremonial site "Supay Kancha." The cathedral stands out for its silver front and the magnificent paintings from the Cuzco School. Interesting elements such as mermaids, flowers, pumas, and the sun can be seen on the exterior facade.

  • The Carlos Dreyer Museum:Founded by the German Carlos Dreyer, this museum houses a diverse collection, including ceramics, gold and silver objects, pre-Inca and Inca textile sculptures, as well as artifacts from the colonial and republican periods. It's a fascinating place to explore the local culture.

  • Exploring Lake Titicaca: Puno serves as a starting point for tours to the islands of Uros, Taquile, and Amantaní on Lake Titicaca. This unique experience allows you to explore the world's highest navigable lake.

  • The Sillustani Tombs: Located about 34 km from Puno are the impressive funerary towers of Sillustani, built by the Colla culture. Both the landscape and the history are fascinating.

Culinary recommendations:

For food, I recommend trying the Huatia, similar to Pachamanca, as well as the ice creams served in the Plaza de Armas of Puno. Also, it's advisable to order fried trout in any restaurant. Don't forget to accompany your meal with Mate de Muña to avoid stomach problems, which helps many tourists.

Other activities:

I suggest renting bicycles to ride along the shores of Lake Titicaca. However, caution is advised with tours on the lake, as all boats are connected and often try to lead tourists to their restaurants, although this is not mandatory. You can choose any boat to return without obligations.
